  • What did you like and dislike about online teaching?

I liked that I could teach from the comfort of my home. This allowed me to feel comfortable and confident as well as it made the teaching experience easy and enjoyable. I disliked that I could not see my learner’s facial expressions and been able to identify through their physical appearance if they understanding the concepts or not. It was difficult to grasp if the learners are following or not.

  • What new skills did you learn through this experience?

I feel like I learnt time management skills through this online teaching experience because I had to get through a certain amount of content by a specific time frame. The second skill would be engaging with students by prompting and probing questions to them. I feel like the adaptability skill was also a new skill that I learnt by educating myself with the knowledge and curriculum that is been taught and adapting to the new layout and platform been used.

  • What would you do differently?

I would include more visuals into my presentation. I would also give my learners more time to think about their answers and give more students the opportunity to participate even they have the same answers or wrong answer. I feel like I would also include the physical objects into my next lesson such as batteries, wire, and light bulb as these objects may be foreign objects to some learners. Lastly, I would also not overpack my slides with content, I would rather create a balance between visuals and content so that it can grab the learner’s attention and interest for grade 7 level.

  • Did you choose appropriate tools to teach your online lesson, explain why?

I believe I chose appropriate tools to teach my online lesson because it linked to the content that was been taught. The online digital tool was easily accessible to all the learners and simple to understand and make use of. The PowerPoint slides that were presented to the learners included all the relevant content that they need to know and was easy for them to read, grasp and understand.

  • How has this experience developed you for teaching in a school?

I strongly believe that this experience has an impact on the skills and approaches that I would take from this experience and incorporate it into the classroom or school setting. This experience has taught me to integrate various methods and approaches into the classroom setting. It has also allowed me to reflect on what worked during the online teaching and what didn't and it gave me an idea what could be implemented into the face-to-face classroom and what couldn't. It also developed me in finding and exploring various digital tool which can be used in the classroom and these tools could create interest and get good engagement with the learners.

Your genuine reflection shows the ups and downs of online teaching. Your lesson, content and pedagogical knowledge was very fine tuned.

I agree with the points that you have made. Your lesson was very nicely planned and fun which indicated that you have thoroughly prepared for it. I enjoyed all aspects of your lesson and cannot wait to see what you have in the future for your learners.
